Safety & Anti-Scam Tips

Most people here are exactly who they say they are. A few are not. These tips will help you enjoy getting to know someone while keeping your heart, your money and your personal details safe.

The one rule that matters most

Never send money to someone you have only met online — not for a plane ticket, a visa, a phone, a hospital bill, school fees, a sick relative, customs charges, or a "business opportunity". However real the story sounds, and however long you have been talking, the answer is no. Anyone who asks is breaking our Terms & Conditions, and we want to know about it.

Warning signs of a scammer

  • They say "I love you" very quickly, before you have really got to know each other.
  • They want to move the conversation off the site straight away — to WhatsApp, Telegram, email or another app.
  • Their story keeps changing, or they avoid simple questions about their daily life.
  • They always have a reason not to do a video call, or the camera "never works".
  • Their photos look like a model's or a magazine's, or the profile is almost empty.
  • A sudden emergency comes up, and only your money can fix it.
  • They ask you to receive or forward money, parcels or documents for them.
  • They talk about investments, crypto or trading and offer to "teach" you.

Protect your personal details

  • Keep your conversations on FilipinoToDate until you trust the person. Our team can only help with what happens here.
  • Do not share your home address, workplace, bank details, ID cards or passwords.
  • We will never ask for your password — not by message, email or phone.
  • Use a photo for your profile that you do not use anywhere else, so it cannot be traced to your other accounts.

Video calls

A video call is one of the best ways to know someone is real — talk face to face before you trust anyone. At the same time, share only what you would be happy for them to keep: the other person can record their own screen. Never do anything on camera you would not want seen by others. If someone threatens to share something from a call unless you pay, do not pay — stop replying, keep the evidence, report them to us and to the police.

Meeting in person

  • Meet in a busy public place — a restaurant, café or mall — for the first few dates.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be back.
  • Arrange your own transport there and back, and keep your phone charged.
  • If you are travelling to meet someone, book and pay for your own flights and hotel. Never send money ahead "for the booking".
  • If anything feels wrong, leave. You do not owe anyone an explanation.

If something does not feel right

Trust your instincts. Open the member's profile and use Block — they will no longer be able to message or call you — and Report, so our team can look at the account.

If you have already sent money, contact your bank or payment service straight away, report it to the police, and write to us at support@filipinotodate.com with the member's username. We will help however we can.
